Guest reporter Paul Elwell had some very good success on the bayous off the Grand River. Paul told us that there was 4 to 5 inches of good ice where he was fishing. He said the panfish bite was extremely hot, with very good sized bluegills slamming his 3 mm tungsten & mousy offering. This is a very common ice fishing area, and if you're new to ice fishing this is a great spot to hone your skills. Paul was fishing approximately 5 feet deep, and the key was to work his bait all the way down to the bottom and slowly work it back up it seemed like the strikes were coming as he was slowly lifting or dropping his bait.
