The fishing season is underway. We are getting reports of great bank fishing for suckers all along the Cass river. It won't be long and the early season will be here for smallmouth and panfish
Well the new free flowing dam project in downtown Frankenmuth is starting to impact the fishing on the Cass river for the better. Good catches of smallmouth bass as well as largemouth and rock bass are occurring along the shorelines both up and downstream of the new rock waterway. I was just there this past week and caught several nice fish and am just starting to explore this new fishing opportunity. This river is scenic and is a kayak and small boat paradise. Check it out on your next adventure. The ramp is being improved but is open for use. Look at this huge cat caught a couple weeks back right near the covered bridge.
Kayak or small boat fishing on the Cass river downstream from Frankenmuth continues to be productive. Good numbers of nice sized panfish and bass are being caught.
The best presentations for good numbers of panfish are live bait drifted below bobbers along the shoreline breaks. Casting small crankbaits and beetle spins has been the ticket for the bass. This fishery is sure to improve now that the new free flowing dam project is done.
The river in downtown Frankenmuth is starting to produce some nice mixed bag fishing. The pan fish and smallmouth bass are biting below the free flowing dam and downstream for a good bit. Try casting live bait under bobbers for the pan fish and small minnow baits and spinners for the bass. A #8 or 9 ralala minnow or #0-1 mepps will do the trick. If you love small boat stream fishing then this is your kind of place. 14-16' boats with small engines or Kayaks and canoes are perfect for this fishery.
Fishing in the river in Frankenmuth starts first thing in the spring. As soon as things get rolling we will post a report. See you in the spring!
