Lake Preview for the St. Germain area.
|St. Germain Wisconsin area fishing report for Big Saint Germain Lake and surrounding lakes|
Well to say the bite has been good around St Germain would be the biggest understatement I could make! The walleye, smallmouth and panfishing is flat out fantastic. Lot's of fish being caught and in tons of different lakes. These nice walleye were recently boated while fishing with guide Rob Manthei.
Weather is turning around and the bite is heating up. Walleyes, bass, and crappies are all snapping. Shallow weeds and wood for walleyes, but also some suspended trolling bites are happening. My nephew and future TV star Bodde Regenfuss wanted to try some trolling and popped a couple 20 plus inch fish over 90 feet of water with his dad Andy Regenfuss just out messing around. Plastics, minnows, and cranks are working for eyes, x raps, husky jerks, paddle tails for smallmouth bass. The season is just getting started so make your plans to come and visit the best fishing in Northern Wisconsin. Thanks to Rob Manthei for a great report!
Just waiting for spring now....
There is still fish able ice in the St Germain area, but this will be our last ice report. Warm weather is now on us and that means the spring crappie and pan fish bite will be here in just a few weeks. Talk to you in April!
Late ice conditions remain solid for now. They are still driving trucks and atv's on most lakes. The warm weather has really jump started the bite. Lots of really nice gills and crappie are being iced on area lakes. The deeper basin areas are holding most the fish as they await spring. The walleye bite is now a morning and evening bite. It has been good but usually only for the first and last hour of the day. Walleye seem to be on deep bars and flats out to 40 FOW. The deeper humps and rock bars are loaded with smallies. They have been very aggressive and are a ton of fun to catch.
St Germain will probably be the last stand for ice fishing this season along with the U.P Get up here and fish while you can! Look at all these fish caught locally in the last week. Thanks to Rob at St. Germain Lodge for the photos.
Rob from Big St Germain lodge reports that the fishing is fantastic this season!
The St Germain area continues to report fantastic fishing everywhere. I'm receiving great reports from the local guides. Pike and walleye are biting well using tip ups and shiners or suckers. Most of the action is still around breaks or weeds. Walleye are also hitting jigging spoons tipped with a minnow head. Perch and crappie have been very active and some real beauties are being iced! The basin areas have been great fishing about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the way down, fish are suspending. The Blue Gill bite has been especially good in and around most of the lakes, don't discount the smaller lakes as they have been solid this year for gills.
Get to St.Germain and FISH!
Trucks and ATV's are moving around freely as this cold snap has tightened things up nicely
