Fishing out of Alpena has stayed consistent even though the weather has not. Lake Trout, salmon and walleye have been caught when trolling Dreamweaver spoons or body baits in 40 to 80 feet along the outer edges of the bay. The colors that have been working the best are green, blue, and silver.
Lake trout and walleye were also caught in deeper water off Thunder Bay Island. The best numbers for Walleye are being picked up by those trolling spoons and body baits in 15 to 45 feet off North Point and Sulphur Island.
Traditional fall casting techniques have been producing multiple limit days over the past two weeks on Hubbard Lake for Walleye. While trolling is a proven tactic for targeting Walleye on Hubbard, casting allows you to maximize your efficiency once you have schools of fish located. Targeting primary depths of 13’-22’ spots seem to be holding true while preferred depths very day to day.
