Escanaba Area Fishing Report

January 20th, 2020

1/20/20

Fishing is still hot on upper bay even though temperatures are finally consistently cold. There’s 11-12” of ice on the upper bay and the bite has slowed down. There’s 9” of ice out from Gladstone and the bites been more steady there. #7 and #9 jigging raps and #3 shiver minnows have been working best. Big sucker minnows on tip ups are also producing good numbers of fish also. Anywhere from 20-34ft has been good and the area around center reef on the upper bay has had the most consistent bite.

With the colder temperatures, anglers were fishing the Kipling area and north to the Days River. Though there is ice, many areas were not safe for travel, so extreme caution needs to be used. Catch rates remained steady, with some jumbo perch limits mixed in with fair numbers of walleye.
