South Central Lower Peninsula Area Fishing Report

February 15th, 2021

2-15-21 South Central Lower peninsula. We've all heard of the "October Lull", a time for deer hunters, where the deer movement is slow and sometimes nonexistent. In the panfish world, we can also experience a similar phenomenon. We'll call it the February Lull! That being said, this doesn't mean these fish can't be caught! You just need to change things up a bit. First thing I do, change my jig size to something a little smaller. Maybe from my normal 4mm down to a 2.5mm-3mm jig, or a size 14 Teardrop or Darter style. What this does, is change the size of the presentation and also slows down the fall rate to lure in even the pickiest pans. I still fish nothing but micro plastics from Judge's Jaw Jackers. J-Spikes or Wee Waxies are a great plastic pairing for these types of jigging presentations. Last but not least, most of my fish this last week have been on a very light or weird bite. I
wouldn't have hooked half the fish I did without having a quality spring bobber to detect those bites. I use 0.010 and 0.014 spring bobbers from Ice Strong Outdoors. A lot of these fish would just come up and hold it in their mouth. Having that super light spring bobber could detect that easily. So when you're on fish and they don't wanna bite, don't give up or get discouraged. Downsize your presentation and slow it down a little bit.
