Events and Festivals
All year long, Frankenmuth festivals and events bring this quaint riverfront community alive ~ so if you're looking for things to do in Michigan, consider Frankenmuth. Many of the festivities are free or low-cost and offer something for everyone in the family. There are events that embrace the city's German heritage like the Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival or Oktoberfest and events for the health and fitness buffs like our runs, bike races and triathlon and many events like Summer Music Fest that bring together two Frankenmuth favorites; music and beer! We hardly need an excuse to throw a party or a festival in this town, but our event organizers have found many reasons to do just that. Let's take the winter, sounds like a good excuse to host a huge Snow Festival. And then the decade we all love to hate and hate to forget& the 80's! We have a festival for that too. Events for Dogs? Check. Events with hot air balloons? Check. Country Music? Check. Michiganders are passionate about classic cars and many places have car shows, but like any good Frankenmuth festival we like to do it up right so the Auto Fest kicks off with an amazing Big Block Party on Main Street! Add to all of those the many wonderful events like colonial encampments, dinner shows and shopping events and you will know why Frankenmuth truly is one of Michigan's most festive destinations all year round!
Fishing in Frankenmuth
Frankenmuth has been known for family style chicken dinners and the World's Largest Christmas store almost as far back as the town itself, but with the completion of the rock dam project in 2015, Frankenmuth may be known in the future as a great place to land a walleye. Located in the heart of Frankenmuth, at the Cass River Dam, Frankenmuth s Fish Passage project reconnects the fish of the Saginaw Bay to more than 73 miles of historically significant spawning areas. Fish species, including walleye and lake sturgeon are important to the Saginaw Bay Fishery. Both are non-jumping species and use rivers and tributaries for spawning before returning to the Saginaw Bay where they spend most of their adult lives. Prior to the "rock ramp," fish trying to swim upstream were prohibited from doing so by the old dam, negatively impacting the fish population in the Saginaw Bay. While fishing above the rock dam is still in its infancy, many visitors have enjoyed the challenge of fishing this new spot. Fishing in Frankenmuth blends the best of both worlds: fishing and family vacation. With the Cass River literally steps away from downtown, it's a great place to fish and play.
Things to do in Frankenmuth
For decades, Frankenmuth has been known for chicken and Christmas and it's no wonder with Bronner's, the world's largest Christmas store, and two of the largest independently owned restaurants in the country "the Bavarian Inn and Zehnder's" that serve world famous chicken dinners. The truth is, with so many new restaurants and attractions opening all the time, the variety of things to do is constantly growing and evolving. Whether you are searching for outdoor adventure, a romantic getaway or a place to reconnect with your family, our four seasons of fun is sure to keep you busy for days. Family-friendly vacations come complete with the best indoor waterparks in Michigan, arcades, riverboat cruises, zip-line adventures, aqua cycles, petting farms and so much more. Frankenmuth is also known as a romantic town, perhaps even the hand-holding capital of Michigan, with picturesque wine and chocolate boat cruises and enchanted horse drawn carriage rides. And only in Frankenmuth can one combine an experience rich in cultural history with the kind of FUN that can only be found at some of the state's largest festivals.
