Gaylord Area Fishing Report

July 6th, 2020

7-6-20 Gaylord area
The heat this week brought out what what was left of the hex flies in most of our river systems. Most of the streams had good hex spinner falls all week right at dark lasting about an hour. We were also seeing some duns hatching on and off throughout the night as late as 3am.  In the coming weeks most of the big fish will be caught at night on mice patterns. The trick to mousing is covering lots of water and hitting every log and grassy undercut bank you can find. Throw three or four casts through those fishy areas and move on to the next one. A fish that is willing to eat a mouse will likely take on the first cast. With the hot weather we have had, you will want to fish water that is below 70 degrees and fight the fish quick. Pull them out for a quick picture and send them back on their way. The adrenaline rush of a 20+ inch fish exploding on a mouse while your buddy’s are getting last call at the bar is a tough feeling to top. I only have a couple of open days through August so give me a call if you are looking to target a trophy brown.
