The fishing in and around the greater Jackson county area has stabilized into a good and reliable bite for the avid panfisherman. The shoreline bite for crappie and bluegill has ended for now and the fish seem to be holding in the mid-depths while they wait for some warmer weather. Once the water does warm to spawning temps you can expect an awesome bite....and we'll keep you posted. Best lakes for these tasty fish are still: Wamplers, Vinyard, Devils, Center and Columbia.
Walleye and pike season is now open and there are guys doing reasonably well in spite of the cooler than normal temps. Walleye are being caught using cool water tactics, jigs and minnows and minnows under bobbers will be the ticket until some warmer weather gets them going. Look for them on shallow points and last years weed beds that are going to start growing with a little sunshine. Newly emerging weed beds are walleye and pike magnets in the spring. Long casting jigs and a slow drag back is deadly right now. The best lakes seem to be: Clark, Devils and Sand if you are targeting walleye! The fish are hungry so get out early and enjoy all the opportunities the lakes around Jackson County offer!
There's also a FREE fishing contest that will run all season long out of Knutson's Sports Shop. No entry and lots of great prizes for the largest fish in a host of categories. Bring your fish in to be measured and photographed and we'll post the pics as they come in! For excellent fishing information and all your bait and tackle needs. Visit Knutson's Sporting Goods in Brooklyn MI, call Tom or one of their staff members for the inside scoop. 517-592-2786
