Marquette County Ice conditions are creating a more than challenging start to the hard water season.
4-7 inches of black ice with over a foot of slush and snow on top.
Snowmobiles and ATVs observed on most lakes.
Those that get out have been rewarded. Many anglers are targeting walleye and finding good numbers near shore in 15 to 20 feet of water . The perch bite has been observed as slow but anglers are finding success in the early morning and twilight hours.
Smaller presentations with wax worms and minnow heads have proven success. The early season Tip-up bite has been good with many flags and large pike on shinners and sucker minnows.
