Sault Ste Marie Area Fishing Report

October 26th, 2020

10-26-20 Sault Sainte Marie
The rain and wind has made it a little tough to get on the St. Mary's river , but when you can the bite can be good.
The bays off the main channel are giving up perch, walleyes, pike and some big smallies. Perch in the 6ft to 12ft with typical perch rigs and small jigs with minnows.
Walleyes seem to be in the 12ft to 16ft range off the weed lines in bays and adjacent to the main channel. Trolling flicker shads , shad raps , flicker minnows in the 16 ft range are taking fish. Pitching jigs and crawlers and casting lipples crankbaits like rattle traps , ripping raps are getting some eyes at the edge of weed beds and out. At the same time you will be picking up some big smallies.
The pike are still chasing bait up in the shallow bays off the channel. Casting or trolling spoons and cranks are producing.
The steelhead and whitefish are still being taken behind the power plant. Drifting flies and casting spoons are getting some fish.
Ice up is getting close so enjoy the soft water while you can.
