Traverse City Area Fishing Report

April 29th, 2019

Traverse City-Lake Leelanau
With less then favorable weather conditions fishing was fast and furious on opening day of Walleye season. We ended the day with 19 legal walleyes and we were not disappointed with the average size. Fish catches were not limited to Walleye; Smallmouth, Northern Pike, Cisco and Brown Trout all made appearances on Saturday. Fish seemed to be focusing their feeding patterns relatively shallow. We were targeting 6-12 feet of water casting 1/4 ounce lead head jigs threaded with 3 and 4 inch soft plastics.

Walleyes are done with their yearly spawning rituals and are now focused on filling their bellies. Fishing should remain good for the next several weeks as long as the weather stables out. Unstable weather with a magnitude of fronts passing may cause the bite to be a little more inconsistent. If you want a fun charter, text Calvin at "No Fish/No Fee" guide services.
