Western Upper Peninsula Area Fishing Report

December 28th, 2020

12-28-20 Western UP on lake gogebic. The fishing on Lake Gogebic has definitely started with a good note this year. We have good clear solid ice throughout the entire lake area, and because we have not had too heavy of snow, movement on the lake has been good as well. If anything, it would be good to get a few inches of snow now so that the snow machines could grip a little better. The perch fishing, Crappie fishing and walleye fishing has been solid on Berglund Bay, and Shoreline bay areas. Concentrate your efforts on the shallow breaks where weeds are present. Set a spread of tip ups set 6 inches off the bottom and you'll catch Perch Walleye and northerns. If you're in a shanty you can also jig or dead stick with small minnows close to the bottom. Enjoy the upper peninsula and will see you in the western UP. Some of the less popular lakes in the western upper peninsula are also kicking out great fishing. Birthday girl Reese Ahola and her dad and other siblings had “a day” on Sunday on a gogebic county lake. Tip ups in 8’ tipped with a sucker proved irresistible to this group of dandy northern pike. Happy birthday Reese.
