Escanaba Area Fishing Report

December 16th, 2019

12/16/19
Little Bay de Noc

Walleye fishing has been hot on Little Bay de Noc with reports from a lot of anglers catching limits of eater sized fish with big fish mixed in. While jigging either #3 shiver minnows or #7 or #9 jigging raps have been the ticket, but various forms of spoons will work as well. Different forms for set lines such as tip ups rigged with 5 to 6 inch sucker minnows have been catching fish too, even those smaller fish in the teens will choke one down. Steep breaks and points in 20 to 37 feet of water have been producing a lot of fish but the rock humps off the east side of center reef can be great for walleye as well. Ice thickness on the Upper Bay (north of Gladstone) varies between 3 to 6 inches depending on the location so use caution and the proper safety gear when venturing out on the ice. A barge came into the bay on December 14th and docked at the Payne and Dolan tanks just east of Saunders point so use caution if fishing in this area. The lower bay has yet to freeze over completely.
