There are three areas to Lake of the Woods, the south shore, Rainy River and Northwest Angle.

The south shore overlooks Big Traverse Bay, the big basin of Lake of the Woods loaded with millions of walleyes and saugers. It is home to a variety of resorts, each with its own unique charm. The Northwest Angle, also known as “the Angle,” is located on the northern portion of Minnesota's Lake of the Woods. It is the northernmost point of the contiguous United States, marked by a northernmost point buoy, and is where the lake's 14,552 islands begin. The Angle offers world-class fishing for walleyes, pike, muskies, crappies and smallmouth bass.
