Weather has really stopped us from getting out but when we can fishing has been good! Just north of the Manistee pier heads in 170-250 feet of water has been good. Spin doctors and green flies down deep and super slim dreamweaver spoons have been the go to. 3 year old kings, adult steelhead, and coho salmon are the biting and will work there way in closer to shore once the water cools off more. Surface temperature is still reading about 61 degrees. Anglers were out from shore and the piers, anglers were getting small coho 10-15 inches with spawn. The best color spawn bags have been, blue, pink, and chartreuse. Those targeting steelhead were surfcasting or fishing from the piers also.
The Big Manistee River Anglers were catching Chinook and steelhead. Chinook could be found throughout the system with lots of fish spawning in the upper river. The run could peak this week. Spawn, skein, spinners, and crankbaits have been the key. We are starting to catch steelhead on spawn or beads in the lower river to mid river. The best action has come when fishing tail outs, these fish are something else. High flying, drag busting, and some of the best colors you'll see all year!
