Near shore fishing out of Cheboygan was awesome this past week. The lake trout were biting, when the winds allowed. The best fishing seems to be between 70 and 80 feet of water. It also seemed to be important that that depth of water was somewhat close to structure. That structure could come in the form of underwater reefs, jumps or the sides of large Shoals. Fishing outside of the major Shoals like, spectacle reef and Reynolds reef has also been awesome. The best baits have been: dreamweaver superslims in bright colors or UV. Another great tactic has been to run a number eight spin doctor in front of a spin and glow or WhirlyGig. The best zone seems to be about 30 to 50 feet down. Get out there and experience this great fishing.
