Escanaba Area Fishing Report

April 18th, 2024

With the warm up in the evening temperatures, we are seeing some smelt action in the small feeder creeks to Big and Little Bay. This has brought the Brown Trout, Steelhead, and Smallmouth to the flats to feed up. Catch and Release Season on Bass has opened with great early season angling opportunities to anglers visiting the Delta County area. Right now we are using small swimbaits, like the Strike King Rage Swimmer and Caffeine Shad to mimic the Smelt and smaller baitfish . Also throwing 2.75" Tube nJigs and Drop Shotting Z-Too's are putting deeper fish in the boat. Jerkbaits such as the Strike King KVD 200 and 300 fished with long pauses in between rod sweeps triggered the Smallmouth and Trout in the area also. Going south from Escanaba, towards the Ford River area, down to No See Um creek, trollers have been having great success on shallow Brown Trout and an occasional Big Walleye trolling Offshore Boards with Strike King Elite Lucky Shads and Jerkbaits. Perch action has picked up, with fish being caught anywhere there is fresh and healthy weed growth.
