Little Bay de Noc
January 6, 2020
Ice fishing is still going strong on Little Bay de Noc with lots of walleye and perch being caught. There is around 10 inches of solid ice with very little snow cover on the upper bay which is north of Gladstone. Shoreline points and breaks, center reef, second reef, third reef, and the mudflats are still producing lots of fish. It’s common to catch a lot of short walleye while fishing the reefs but a limit can still be had with some sorting of smaller fish. There’s always trophy potential anywhere you go but especially out in the mudflats or to the north around center reef. The top producing lures remain to be #7 and #9 Rapala jigging raps and #3 Moonshine Lures shiver minnows. Use glow and UV colors during the low light periods and natural colors during the day. It looks like below freezing temperatures are supposed to stick around now with lows at night projected to be in the single digits, so we should start making ice fast allowing access to the southern waters that produce some true giants through the ice.
