Escanaba Area Fishing Report

April 20th, 2021

4-17-21 Escanaba
Field reporter Scott Cormier spent the day over on big bay de Noc with Michigan department of natural resources wildlife technician Colter Lubben. Water temperature was in the low 40s in the perch action has been very very good. Over in Garden Bay and Kates bay many limits of perch of been caught lately along with a few giant Smallmouth. Bass fishing is just starting to heat up with that first wave of fish coming up at the shallows following balls of smelt. Fishing a large Jerkbaits ultra slow mimicking a Smelt Inn distress has been the ticket. Positive as long as 30 to 45 seconds between twitches seem to be the best with the water under 48°Also throwing a sexy swimmer on a quarter ounce jig head real very slowly across the bottom and 10 feet of water accounted for a few fish.
As the weather and the water temperatures continue to rise, you will see this first big group of females pull back out to the first available drop and then the males will start coming up on the flats to start looking for places to Spawn.
