Holland Area Fishing Report

Lake trout fishing has been strong up and down the West Michigan coastline when the waves and ice allow you to get out. Both jigging and trolling tactics are working but I find jigging way more fun and the hits are aggressive. Best baits for jigging have been 3/4oz Strike King Red Eye Shads and 5.75 Strike King Rage Swimmers on 1oz Squadron Jig Heads. The key is to cast your bait out, let it hit the bottom, and very aggressively jig it back while occasionally hitting bottom. These fish are feeding on shad coming out of the connecting rivers and lakes and natural shad patterns have been working best. Target 25-40fow out in front of channel mouths or at any known structure spots.
