Cadillac Michigan Area Fishing Report

May 26th, 2020

5-25-20 Cadillac
It’s been an unusually long and cold spring with water temperatures that are just slowly starting to warm up. Typically this time of year Bass and Bluegills have been on beds for some time but this year they’re just starting to migrate out of the deeper water.

As far as Panfish go Crappie have been the most productive. Most of the catches have been at first light or in the evening into the dark. Small minnows under a bobber set 2-3 feet below the surface in 4-10ft of water. Bass, Bluegill and Sunfish are just starting show up in the shallower water to start spawning. Right now most are hanging out at the weed edge in 7-10ft but you should expect to start seeing them on beds by next weekend. Fish have been spotted on beds on some of the smaller lakes in the area that warm up faster.

Walleye fishing has been good. With the slowly warming water they’re slowly starting to head out to slightly deeper water. Crankbaits are still the #1 producer but many are being caught on live bait. Minnows and Leeches under a slip bobber or on a jig, as well as trolling or drifting crawler harnesses has been starting to work as well.

Most of the Bass we’re hearing about are still coming from 7-10 foot of water. Like the Bluegills expect to start seeing them on beds before next weekend.

Pike fishing has been pretty good, most coming on accident fishing for Walleyes, Bass and even Crappie. Since the weed growth is still low, Crankbaits and Spoons are still working well. If you have the patience throwing a sucker under a bobber usually works well too.

Our 9th Annual 2020 Free Summer Fishing Contest has started this Saturday. The contest ends on September 10, 2020. Fish can come from any body of water in Michigan and there is NO entry fee.
