Manistee Area Fishing Report

March 6th, 2024

3-5-24 Manistee dual report
Manistee river and her surrounding tributaries are starting to heat up. Steelhead are making their spring run and plenty of them. They are not up on gravel yet as water temps are not right yet so this makes for a perfect time to catch them in deep winter buckets and tailouts. Beads and jigs have been my go to for the past 2 months and nothing has changed besides colors. The water has been clear so smaller jigs in natural colors and whites have been working well along with peachy color beads and yellows. We did get some rain last night so expect for that to change to brighter colors and bigger presentations.
Second report Manistee and surrounding areas, the perch bite has picked up tremendously with this warmer weather. Perch pounders and jigs have been the tickets. Tipped with wigglers, minnows, spikes, or wax worms. Focusing on not a certain depth but using your graphs to stay on top of the pods of moving fish. They have the feed bags on and it’s very easy to notice.

We have dates available if anyone is looking to book a guided trip for steelhead or perch. We had this Saturday and Sunday march 9th and 10th just open up but we do have other weekends and weekdays available from now through April. Call Alex of Fire plug charters at 231-690-3937 to book your dates!
